Photo journaling relationship with service learning and literacy skills

Photo journalism can be used in different ways in service learning. You can use it to have funds for your service learning project. You can use it in monitoring it. You can use it to show the outcome of your project.

photo journalism is related to literacy skills in the extend that students use grammar, vocabulary and their general knowledge to write the caption going with the photos

Differences or similarities of YMCA S. Learning compared to La Conexion and Project Connect's

I didn`t expect many similarities because we have a different group of people with different goals, a different age rank and a different theme ( photo journalism ).

Technology is great. Today I've learnt how to create a video using iMovie. Here is the first movie I've created in Bowling Green State University, Ohio.

Viva technology

I love technology classes. They are so engaging. At the beginning I was afraid and was at loss in technology sessions. But know I look forward having them. When I consider all the new interesting tools I`ve learnt ( create my own blog, create a QR code, wordle, popplet, plickers and designing a powerpoint ) I am just grateful to GOD.
Thank you ever so much dear Cindy and Mark!

New teaching techniques learnt through la conexion

Actually it's not a new technique that I`ve discovered in la conexion but I saw there a teacher using exclusively English language to teach English to non-native speakers and the latter responded and were able to understand the instructions and the lessons. Then I realized that it could work in my classroom!

Poverty and access to services in the US. Is Project Connect solving the problem?

In every country in the World there are rich people and poor ones. Knowing this I expected that there were poor people in the United States. However the poverty I see here is different from the poverty I`ve seen in my country. I would qualify U.S. poverty ''clean''. I mean as I prepared for yesterday`s service learning with Project Connect I was expecting to see people in rags, badly ill people, disabled children, starving family and dirty beggars. But NO! People coming for services to Project Connect weren`t any of this.

So I`d say poverty is not that Obvious in U.S. and I think the Government has a lot to do with this. Programs like Project Connect has been doing a great job. As far as I am concerned they are helping the problem but the long-term outcome depends on the benefactors because it`s up to them to grab the opportunities of services and counselling provided to them on that day to emerge.

Wordle in the classroom

I've just experienced wordle. It was a mystery to me. When I saw wordle document I used to wonder how people managed to make such documents. I won't ask anymore because now I know. So thanks Cindy.

Well I think we can use wordle in various ways in our classrooms. For example we can use it to pre-teach the vocabulary of a text. Another way to use it is in warm up activities wordling the lyrics of a song or story and having students guess which one it is.

Here is my FIRST wordle. Enjoy it!

La conexion experience

I definitely adored what I experienced in la conexiaron yesterday. Monitoring those people, helping them with pronunciation, grammar and seeing them struggle to learn English moved me a lot. However as an EFL teacher this is not new to me because these are activities that I`m used to doing at school and even at home.

Hi Mark

Don't know if you remember me. It's Anna from Senegal. I've really appreciated being taught how to create a blog. It's a brand new thing to me and I'm happy to be able to do it. I will for sure teach it to my students and peers back to Senegal.

I've learnt interesting things related to technology today but one thing that touched me deeply was your pedagogy teaching us how to create a blog. You've been so patient, giving clear explanations and moving step by step. I've appreciated a lot and I think this will impact on my pedagogy back home.

Coming to the way blogging can impact on our classes, I think it can allow students share information quickly and on their own.

My experience here is unique and enhancing. I am appreciating and enjoying every second I stay in here.

welcome to my blog

Hello
